Be sure to use a supported browser when taking a quiz. The Canvas by Instructure mobile application does support taking quizzes in the app; however, for high stakes quizzes and exams, is recommended to take quizzes in web browsers on traditional desktop or laptop computers.

Graded quizzes will be listed in the assignment and syllabus lists. You can also view quizzes, self-tests, and surveys in modules and from the left navigation (Quizzes) if enabled in a course. Click the quiz title to display the quiz page. On the quiz page you will see details about the quiz. Review the numbered items below.

information.pngTips on Taking Quizzes

  • Some instructors may require some exams to be proctored. These exams are password protected and must be taken in the proctoring lab. Review what is required with proctored exams in your course.
  • Most quizzes and exams will be timed so be sure you allot yourself plenty of time to take the quiz BEFORE THE QUIZ DUE DATE. Make sure you will not be interrupted so you can focus on completing the quiz.
  • If a quiz is not timed, the student can returned to the quiz at any time during the availability period. The quiz will automatically be submitted by the due date. Don't wait until the last minute to complete an untimed quiz.
  • When quizzes are timed you can hide/show the timer on the right sidebar. When you get to the one minute mark in a quiz Canvas will warn that time is almost up. When time is up the quiz will be automatically submitted.
  • Some quizzes may be setup where you can only view one question at a time. Sometimes you can revisit past questions and sometimes you cannot. If a quiz is setup so you cannot revisit a question, when you click Take the quiz a small warning dialog box will appear stating that you cannot view the previous question. Click Begin to start the quiz.
  • If there is a technical problem while you are taking a quiz, try access the quiz again as soon as possible. You should be able to finish where you left off if you have time remaining in the quiz. Contact your instructor and the Center helpdesk if you have problems taking a quiz.
