In Canvas you can decide how you will receive notifications that come from Canvas. In the previous page you learned how to adjust your personal profile and add other ways of contact. If you add other contacts, the notification list will display a column for each one you add. This will allow you to customize how you receive the notifications from your courses. Under the column for your desired contact method point the mouse over each course activity and set the your desired preference for notifications. The notifications can always be adjusted as needed. Review the numbered items below.

  2. ASAP – Receive notifications right away as soon as any activity happens with selected course activity.
  3. Daily – Receive notifications once daily for the selected course activity.
  4. Weekly - Receive notifications once weekly for the selected course activity.
  5. Nothing – No notifications will be sent to any contact method listed on the personal profile. Students must login to Canvas to see the notifications and new messages.

Notification Tips

Review the tips below to make the most out of the notifications feature of Canvas.

  • Add other contact methods to your profile so you can receive the notifications where you are mostly to see them on a regular basis.
  • Some instructors may “mute’ notifications for an assignment while they are grading the assignment. No notifications will appear for the assignment until the instructor has unmuted the assignment. Be patient as your instructor grades the homework.
  • Make adjustments to your notifications if you feel you are missing important information or if you are receiving too much information.
