There are several places in Canvas that help you keep track of your assignments in Canvas. Recommended! The best way to view assignments for each course is from the course's left navigation and click on Assignments. When you first login to Canvas there are several indications of assignments that are coming due. Review the numbered items below.

  1. Course Menu – Point to Courses in the global navigation to select a course to view. In the course select Assignments in the left navigation to view all graded assignments.  
  2. Calendar – Click the calendar to view ALL assignments from ALL courses. In the calendar you can filter assignments by courses to help keep track of assignments. Additionally, any event or assignment coming up on the calendar will display in the right sidebar below the To Do list.
  3. To Do List – The To Do list will display ALL upcoming assignments from ALL courses.
  4. Dashboard/Global & Course activity streams – The Dashboard will display the global activity stream. Items in the global activity stream will be organized by type. Point the mouse to assignments and click Show more to see a list of assignments from ALL courses that are coming due. Click the course title to view the assignment in the course. When viewing a course stream, the activity stream will be restricted to the current course being viewed.
  5. Recent Feedback – Any recently graded assignments will display under recent feedback.

Viewing the Assignment List

On the left menu of your course, click Assignments. On the Assignments page students may see assignments listed in up to four different categories. Review the numbered items below.

  1. Search – Click in the search box to locate an assignment quickly.
  2. Date/ Type – By default assignments are displayed by date. Assignments can be viewed by type by clicking Type. This option will display assignments in the groups the instructor has created.
  3. Overdue Assignments - These are assignments that are past the due date but are still available for submission. Please that submissions will be marked late and your instructor may impose penalties for late assignments.
  4. Upcoming Assignments – Assignments will be listed by date with assignments coming due at the top of the list. Assignment coming due soon will also be listed on the right sidebar with a link to the calendar.
  5. Undated Assignments - These are assignments that do not have a due date assigned. Check with your instructor on when submission must be completed.
  6. Past Assignments – Once the availability date has past, assignments are not available for submission.

Assignment Details

Each assignment will displays details that are important to review.

  1. Assignment Title – Click on the assignment title to view the details of the assignment. Click on an assignment title to display the assignment page. Assignments for online or offline submission will display with A+ icon. Quizzes will display with Q in circle icon and discussions will display with bubble icon.
  2. Assignment Availability Dates – Some assignments will have availability dates. This will display the date the assignment will become available submission or the date when the assignment will become unavailable for submission.
  3. Due Date – The due date will display in this column. If no availability dates are set, students can submit assignments past the due date. Assignments will be marked late if submitted past the due date. Check with course syllabus for late policy.
  4. Points Earn/Worth – Graded assignments will display the points earn on left and the total sum the assignment worth will display on right.
