Previously you learned how to navigate Canvas. Next is how to navigate a Canvas course. Below is a screen shot of this course's homepage. Keep in mind each course's homepage may appear different than this course. (1) All courses will have a left navigation bar and the navigation can vary from course to course depending on how the instructor sets up the course.  (2) In the middle is a content area that instructors can customize. Each course will be different depending on the instructor sets up the course. The default option is the course stream which is similar to the Dashboard but only display activity from current course. (3) The content of right sidebar will vary depending on how the course home page is setup and on where you are in the course. If the instructor customized course home , the course stream can be viewed by clicking View Course Stream. Recent feedback will also appear on the course home as well.

Course  Navigation Tips

  • No matter how your instructor organizes the content of the course you can always click Home in the left navigation to return to the course homepage. The course home will have some unique features that can help you navigate recently updated content.
  • If there are new grades in the course, there will be blue badge listed by grades in the left navigation. Click Grades to view more details on the new grade.
  • The right sidebar will vary depending on where you are in the course. From the home page on the right sidebar you can quickly see what assignments have been graded and any feedback your instructor has given you. Click the assignment title to view the assignment details page.
