Technology Information

Forney ISD staff does not have administrative rights to their devices. This is for the security of the network, since it is very easy to unintentionally download a virus that can compromise our system.  We utilize a Self Install folder that contains updates to software that is loaded on your computer as well as specific software installation. Look for the Self Install folder on your Windows IOS computer screen (i.e. not a Chromebook).

The staff is only filtered for things like adult sites, gambling sites and anything that might cause harm to our systems. The student filter complies with the Federal Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) laws. We prefer to apply our resources toward educating students about what is acceptable rather than blocking sites. The technology department does not block sites unless they are inhibiting the function of our network.

For the beginning of the school year 2015 there are no streaming limits in place for either teachers or students. Streaming limits may have to be imposed if it is determined that speed of the network is being compromised.

There are 3 different browsers installed on your Windows IOS computer (i.e. not a Chromebook). These are Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome. Browsers are the way that you access the Internet and each has it's own advantages and disadvantages, the main one is the amount of resources that it takes to run the browser. Internet Explorer uses the most resources and therefore should only be used if it is a requirement of the application you are accessing. In most cases, Google Chrome is the preferred browser.
