Vocabulary Acquisition
Vocabulary acquisition is important regardless of grade or subject. Here are some strategies that can be used by anyone at any grade level.
1. 15 Second Vocabulary Videos in which students pronounce, define, and illustrate (animation, drawing, acting, claymation etc) the meaning of the word. The completed videos could be uploaded to a shared Google Doc or a Padlet (which can be embedded in Canvas).

2. Googlefy Marzano's Six step Process for Teaching Vocabulary Links to an external site.. Create a template in Google drive for the first 3 steps of Explain, Restate and Show. Use a Canvas Discussion for steps 4 & 5 of Discuss, Refine and Reflect. For step 6, playing games, create a flashcards with Quizlet (which is an app that can be added to Canvas).
3. Discovery Education has some vocabulary strategies using videos, which can be embedded in Canvas. Students can have access to Discovery Education
Vocabulary Scavenger Hunt Links to an external site. Instead of you selecting the segment of video have the students find appropriate videos.
Vocabulary Stepping Stone Links to an external site. There is a Chrome add on Links to an external site. for creating word clouds.
4. Word walls for all grade levels. If you are short on wall space, consider using digital word walls, these can be as simple as a Google Sheet or using a website such as Padlet, Thinglink, or other interactive poster builders.
